The Nash Metropolitan convertible top enjoyed only a limited success during its brief existence, but today it is considered ahead of its time. In the 1950s, when most car manufacturers were building their cars as large as possible, the Metropolitan soft top was uniquely small - a subcompact by today's standards, although that term did not exist back then.

The Nash soft top also featured innovations in technology and style, including interchangeable components and many standard luxury options. As a partnership in the model's later years it was also known as the Hudson metropolitan convertible top, it remains a highly prized collectible both for its unique styling and for its brisk performance in such a small package.
