How to Buy a Mazda Miata Convertible Top

When you are shopping for a Mazda Miata Convertible Top, you have several things to consider. First, Mazda Miata convertible tops are available in 1-Piece Look style and also in 2-Piece Look style. The 2-Piece Look style of top is what your Miata originally came with from the factory. The 1-Piece Look style convertible top has more of a smooth finish to it, as there are no seams from faux-overlapping rear quarters alongside the rear window.

Both styles of convertible top will fit your Miata just right; the decision you make is really about your own preference.

Next, you need to consider whether you want a zipper or not with your top. A zipper, found on the inside of the top, is used to allow the rear window to come down while the top is still up. If you would like this capability, then you should purchase a top with a zipper. If you do not want this ability, then you are welcome to purchase a top without a zipper. It is important to note that 1-Piece Look tops are not available with a zipper; so, if you want the ability to lower your rear window with the top up, you will need to purchase a 2-Piece Look top.

Next, you need to decide if you want a rain rail on your top. A rain rail is a guard along the seams of the top which helps to prevent water from leaking into the vehicle, by guiding the rain away from the seam and off the top smoothly; this prevents rain from getting in the doors and trunk area. Many of the tops we offer already include a rain rail, but if you would like to reuse your existing rain rail, you are welcome to purchase a top without a rain rail pre-installed.

The next choice to consider is which window type will best suit your needs. We offer tops with a heavy-gauge vinyl (plastic) window; a tinted glass window (with no defroster); and a heated glass window (meaning it has a defroster). If the convertible top you are replacing on your Mazda Miata already has a defroster window, and you want to maintain that style of top, then be sure to purchase the top with defroster glass window.

Finally, once you have made these decisions, you will need to choose which material you would like for your top: Haartz Stayfast Cloth or Cabrio Textured Vinyl. This is a matter of preference and taste; both materials will hold up well over time, and will show wear at roughly the same rate. Many colors are available on our site, and custom colors can be ordered, special made just for you. Just contact customer service to place a custom order.
