Originally developed in the 1930s as a luxury car to compete against the Lincoln and Packard lines, the Chrysler LeBaron convertible top was eventually to be succeeded by the Chrysler Sebring convertible in the mid-1990s. In the decades between, the replacement Chrysler LeBaron soft top became the longest-running Chrysler model to date.

The third generation Chrysler LeBaron soft top was an upscale model built on Chrysler?s workhorse K platform. It offered a level of style in the Chrysler LeBaron cabrio that was missing in the other K platform models like the Dodge Aries and the Plymouth Reliant. A replacement Chrysler LeBaron convertible top was introduced in the late 1980s on the H platform, which was offered for sale in the European market as well.
