The Camaro is the second of America's two great pony cars, and was unveiled by Chevrolet in 1966 as a direct competitor to the Ford Mustang. (When automotive press asked the Chevrolet product managers "what's a camaro?" they were told it was "a small vicious animal that eats Mustangs.") It debuted on the new F-body platform, and was available as a 2-seater, 2+2, coupe, and Camaro convertible. The popularity of these older models makes Camaro convertible top replacement a common issue for these classic cars.
Camaro convertible tops may steal the show, but Camaros have also held several high-profile roles in movies, where they tend to steal the scene from their human counterparts. A black 1967 Camaro starred in the hit 1985 John Cusack movie "Better Off Dead," and a black and yellow 1977 Camaro is the auto mode for the Transformer Bumblebee, in the 2007 special effects blockbuster.
The Camaro has suffered ups and downs, in both design and sales, over the decades since its release. It was recently revived as the fifth-generation Camaro in 2010. The redesigned Camaro convertible top proved instantly popular, with sales of the Camaro soft top outstripping the company's best estimates.
