(1) What model years and configurations does this top fit?
These replacement tops (and top kits) are engineered specifically for 1969 through 1976 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertibles (Type 14). These tops support both LHD and RHD versions of Karmann Ghia built from 1969 to 1976. As always, check your chassis/VIN—especially for later years—because correct fitment may depend on your vehicle’s specific build date or regional configuration.
(2) What rear window design is used in these replacements?
For these model years, the tops are made to reuse the existing factory glass rear window. The new fabric cover includes sewn‑in gaskets to accommodate and seal against the original glass window.
(3) What materials and construction standards are used?
TopsOnline offers these tops in Haartz Pinpoint Vinyl or Stayfast Cloth. They are Robbins-brand, built to factory specifications with perfect-fit patterns. TopsOnline claims 100% fit guarantee and backs them with a five‑year manufacturer warranty.
(4) Can I install this Convertible Top myself?
Technically, yes, most people can manage to install a Convertible Top on their own, provided they have experience working on automotive upholstery projects. However, TopsOnline.com recommends using a professional installer. Why? Because (a) a professional is going to provide you with the very best convertible top installation that you could ask for; (b) in the rare case where an installer might make a mistake, they’ll take care of it – but if YOU make a mistake with your own installation, that’s coming out of your pocket; and (c) finally, manufacturers reserve the right to void a warranty due to a faulty installation when that installation is done by someone who is not a professional installer. So bottom line: don’t take the risk: hire a professional installer for your convertible top installation – it’s worth it and you won’t regret it!
(5) What’s included in a full convertible top kit versus just the top?
Convertible top alone: only the outer cover with built‑in gasket for glass window.
Kit option: includes the top cover plus accessories like a full set of cables & top padding. Hardware like bows and springs are not included and must be reused if in good condition or ordered separately.
