Convertible Top & Window: What to Know about 2-Piece Convertible Tops

When you purchase a 2-Piece Convertible Top & Window, you will receive two sections of the top: the Convertible Top section and the Window section. They are ready for installation; no sewing is required. During installation, each section gets installed on the Top Frame separately (the same as the factory top installation). After installation is completed, the Convertible Top Quarters will overlap the 2 sides of the Window Section, making it look like a 1-Piece Top; in reality, they are 2 pieces overlapping each other (which is the same as the original Top).

NOTE: With a Convertible Top & Window, if your model's Top installation requires, you will receive:

(1) New Wire-on trim & 2 Chrome Ends to hide the staples;
(2) New assembled Convertible Top Header Seal made with the same material as the Top Cover, or extra material the same as the Top material to recover the existing header seal. (The Top Header Seal is NOT the front rubber weather strip.)
EZ ON Brand Convertible Tops with Plastic Window include a 3-year (36-month) warranty for the convertible top and the bond between the top and plastic window; an eighteen (18) month labor allowance is also included. Please see our Warranty page for more details.
(1) What model years and vehicle does this convertible top fit?

This replacement top is specifically designed for the 1949, 1950, and 1951 Lincoln Cosmopolitan two‑door convertible models. It’s tailored to the factory original contour and fit for those model years.
(2) What type of rear window does it feature?

This version comes with a horseshoe‑style zipper plastic rear window made of DOT‑rated heavy 40‑gauge vinyl. The zipper design allows the window section to detach from the top, typical of original factory style for that era.
(3) What materials and brands are used in the top’s construction?

The tops are produced under the EZ ON brand, using Haartz Stayfast Cloth or Pinpoint Vinyl, offered in various colors. Seams are heat-sealed for durability. The plastic window is heavy vinyl resistant to UV, mold, and mildew
(4) Can I get a version without the plastic window?

Yes — there is also an option that comes with a blank rear curtain (double-thickness fabric) instead of the plastic window. It uses the same horseshoe zipper style and is intended for customers who already have their own glass rear window to install.
(5) Can I install this Convertible Top myself?

Technically, yes, most people can manage to install a Convertible Top on their own, provided they have experience working on automotive upholstery projects.  However, TopsOnline.com recommends using a professional installer.  Why?  Because (a) a professional is going to provide you with the very best convertible top installation that you could ask for; (b) in the rare case where an installer might make a mistake, they’ll take care of it – but if YOU make a mistake with your own installation, that’s coming out of your pocket; and (c) finally, manufacturers reserve the right to void a warranty due to a faulty installation when that installation is done by someone who is not a professional installer.  So bottom line: don’t take the risk: hire a professional installer for your convertible top installation – it’s worth it and you won’t regret it!
