The Kia Sportage soft top was available in the first generation of this compact crossover SUV. Created in the years when Kia fostered a close relationship with Mazda, the replacement Kia Sportage convertible top was built with a substantial number of Mazda parts.

Although earlier Kia models rated poorly in traffic safety tests, the model has since been retooled from the ground up, and has won several safety awards both in the United States and internationally. The two door Kia Sportage convertible top model was phased out in subsequent years.
